Gorgeous Pinot Noir from the coolest climes of Beechworth and a producer on the up and up.
"2018 stands out as an example of the coolest growing season we’re ever likely to experience, producing lighter bodied wines marked by savoury flavours, bright acidity and fine tannins. We harvested late in March and gave it fifteen months in barrel, one new in six. An elegant wine with hints of aniseed and Asian spices foiling savoury red fruits."
The Brunnen vineyard is set amongst spectacular Australian bushland high on the hill behind Beechworth. Its high altitude and rugged soils make a perfect setting for high-class Burgundian varieties. The Chardonnay from this vineyard makes a beautiful wine for Tessa and Jeremy, as does the excellent Pinot Noir fruit.
This is a thought-provoking style of Pinot. Built in a savoury framework of herbal, undergrowthy mystery, the fruit purity from intelligent viticulture shines through. The 2017 vintage is one of the coolest that this couple is likely to see in Beechworth and it has yielded them their best Pinot Noir to date.
This is one of the finest examples of Pinot Noir to be found from the region and highly worth investigating if you like savoury yet delicate versions of this variety.
