Region: Beechworth - Victoria
Winemaker: Adrian Rodda
Varietal(s): 100% Chardonnay
The Smiths Vineyard, one of the most historic in Beechworth, is now in the capable hands of Adrian Rodda. His Cabernet blend from this block is a thing of beauty, and no surprise, this Chardonnay is a ripper as well. At 550m ASL, this site produces fine, classic Chardonnay of dazzling purity. Rodda has gotten his ducks in a row this year. The Chardonnay is arguably his best to date from this vineyard and is an exquisite example of Chardonnay from this Victorian region.
"A year of rain and shade in vineyard with grapes grown a little leaner and more reserved for following flavour. Grapefruit! Spicy whiffs, flint and warm steel, rips along the palate with searing acidity and bracing, minerally feel. It’s of that racier, leaner style, skeletal and fierce but very refreshing. A fine, powdery finish lends character too. Brace yourself." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
