This is the Koerner brothers' take on the famed Cabernet Malbec blend from the Clare Valley. There are many who believe that these two varieties are the region's best suited and the Koerners certainly make a bold case for it here.

The fruit from their Gullyview Vineyard was picked for freshness coming in at an astonishingly low 12.5% ABV. Though power was not sacrificed, the intensity and depth of flavour here is a regional marvel. A much more traditional wine here from the Koerners, albeit with their own twist. Quality and longevity were certainly front of mind when they brought this to bottle. This is their finest wine to date and something that should live a long and distinguished life for a decade or two to come.

Hand harvested and sorted in vineyard. Destemmed retaining 50% whole berries with no whole bunch. Natural ferment in open top steel fermenters, hand plunged twice daily. 3 weeks on skins. Free run and pressings combined. Settled off gross lees for 7 days. Aged in Slavonian and French Demi-muid for 10 months, then racked to steel for 2 months.

The Koerner Riesling is grown on the Koerner family vineyard, Gullyview, in Watervale, Clare Valley.

This vineyard has been farmed by the Koerners for 35 years, the sons Damon and Jonathan are intimate with the fruit and it shows. This is Watervale Riesling with more character and texture than the 'classic' styles of wine the region is famous for.

The fruit spent six hours on skins, wild fermentation in steel and ceramic amphora, and ten months on fine lees. No fining, no filtering, just a tiny bit of sulphur before bottling. It’s got all the drive and precision you want from Watervale Riesling, but with more layers, a little grip, and a whole lot of personality.
