The Timo Mayer Volcanic Syrah, like the Pinot Noir, comes from volcanic, red basalt soils, although this time from near Gembrook. It shows a wonderful mix of bright cherry and plum fruitiness on the nose, as well as some minerality, but after a bit of airing, the dark fruits start to shine, bringing with them some spicy tones.

The palate is silky and rich, with great concentration of flavour and a tannin structure that gives it grip and interest in the mouth. It finishes with orange and smokiness, delivering another captivating Timo Mayer

Estate grown, matured in seasoned hogsheads. A bright, light garnet, bold, structured, and driven by Timo’s signature whole-bunch fermentation.

“Whoa! In the green herb, white pepper and mezcal characters! Strap in. Lighter weight, a sluice of red cherry, rose hip cherry, all of this tightly wound with those green herb and peppery notes, skinny in its jive and cinched with ultra fine, silty tannin lending a long, drying pucker post sips. Fragrant, frisky, needs some time to see it elevate, but even now has a slinky swagger that should drag pinotphiles in. Sleek, elegant, personality plus."

"Scents and flavours of lemon curd, grapefruit, red apple juice, green mango, a touch of green almond and a big squeeze of lime. Dashes of sea spray and ginger here too. You could say generally there’s lots on here. A suggestion of parmesan cheese funk in the mix too. Slippery texture, some chalkiness to finish.
