The Griffins vineyard is planted on deep red volcanic loam soils moving to grey & chocolate over weathered
basalt sit on the south west side of Griffins Hill at 440m altitude, this block of chardonnay was established in 1995 with Clone I10V5. Produced the same way as always, Harvested early april 2022, whole bunch pressed, fermented with the
vineyard & cellars naturally occurring indigenous yeasts in 300L hogs heads using a mix Siruge (French) & Stockinger (Austrian) cooperages, during élevage there is absolutely no racking, left on full solids with no interference with the lees, the wine always goes through full malolactic fermentation on its own, a small amount of sulphur post malo in December, racked from barrel 21/3/2023 to stainless tank no fining or filtering, bottled 20/10/2023 A small amount of sulphur pre estate bottling.

Eastern Peake Griffins Road Chardonnay 2023, Ballarat’s high-altitude rocket fuel.

It explodes with white peach, finger lime and raw almond, then slams in a wave of crushed rock and sea-salt tension. The palate is coiled-spring tight: creamy yet razor-sharp, driven by ripping acidity and a chalky, saline finish that refuses to quit. Pure 2023 cool-climate adrenaline.

Whole bunches straight to press, wild ferment and full malo in 300 L Siruge and Stockinger hogsheads, zero racking, left on full lees, bottled straight from barrel, unfiltered, barely any SO2. The Griffins Road block (I10V5 clone, planted 1995 on volcanic grey loam) is farmed hard-organic by the Lattas.

One of the most electric, mouth-watering Chardonnays coming out of Victoria right now. Drink it loud.

What a fantastic value for money Chardonnay.

In 2021 a decision was made to produce an "Introductory level" Chardonnay from both our own & sourced fruit (from vineyards that go under the Latta range). This wine is again made up from 5 vineyards (Eastern Peake, Mount Coghill, Two Mile Hill, Pirrepoint & Moonambel).
All individual sites were whole bunched pressed, fermented naturally in 300L hogs heads & 228L (30% new) barriques, racked after 12 months élevage to tank, always full malo, no fining or filtering, bottled 4 months later from racking. A small amount of sulphur post malo & pre bottling.
