"2013 seems to be a bit more crowd-pleaser’y”, says Kate McIntyre MW of Moorooduc Estate, “the complexity of the 2012s, which tend to be more tight and savoury, is very different to these more generous expressions”. New oak is down to 20% in the chardonnays of Moorooduc Estate – another shift in the program in recent years. The vineyard was planted in 1983. Best barrels go into this wine. Exotic fruit scents, quince, pawpaw, ripe tropical citrus, but also shows nougat/cedar oak, spice, intense chardonnay hit. Racy, lean, tightly wound and pushes with great flavour and thrust across the palate. Fine detail, complexity, flesh of fruit. It’s very good. Built for long life in cellars too."

"This wine represents the pinnacle of style and quality of Moorooduc Estate ‘McIntyre Vineyard’ Chardonnay. A result of a stringent fruit selection from our oldest chardonnay vines, this wine expresses the unique characters of this vineyard site. Vinification: Hand harvesting, whole bunch pressing, 100% wild yeast fermentation in French oak barrels, 25% being new. Natural malolactic fermentation (100%) in barrel, 10 months in wood on lees with 1 racking prior to bottling."

    Each year grapes for the GOED Chardonnay are sourced from the Macedon Edge vineyard located 8kms
    from our property in Tooborac. All grapes were handpicked on the 21st of March 2021.
    Steady winter rains led to very healthy overall soil moisture, which resulted in some superb plant vigour and
    growth. Spring was a little delayed, and the temperatures were on the cooler side, however that being said
    things dried out quickly. For the most part fruit set was modest probably driven by some rather gusty weather,
    particularly during flowering, which is a little unfortunate. However, the fruit was fantastic and the plants
    super healthy, (particularly if you compare it to last year’s super dry beginning). A little cooler than most
    vintages and hence in some instances harvest was a tad delayed, though the mini heat wave late in the season
    did wonders in helping the plants push ripeness resulting in some great looking fruit to work with. The season
    was a little challenging from a disease pressure prospective but overall, the yield and quality were superb.
    Foot stomped before gently pressing into stainless steel. Cold settled for 60 hours then racked and transferred
    to new and old French oak for primary and secondary fermentation. Matured for 14 months in oak and a
    further 3 months in stainless steel prior to bottling. Bottles unfined & unfiltered.

With swirling, this fans out to take in broader, more cushioned hints of vanilla and spice, but the aroma profile never sheds its delightfully nervy tension, so the whole bounces between tautness and richness. Don’t rush this wine, as extended nosing rewards with a constantly changing balance and set of components. It’s one to savour. In the mouth, this shows a subtlety and elegance that, as with the nose, shouldn’t be rushed."

    Estate wines are those which express regional origin with barrel selections from individual vineyards merging their specific attributes into a coalescence which harmoniously blends into a whole. These wines represent what we believe to be the best expression of a Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir or Chardonnay each vintage. The aim is not to seek the individuality of the single vineyards, rather we liken our Estate Wines to a “field blend”, albeit one created at the tasting bench in the barrel room but nonetheless a blend of clones from a wide variety of individual vineyard blocks. Clone P58 (100) from our Wallis (45%), McCutcheon (35%) and Judd (20%) vineyards. Grapes hand-harvested through mid to late March, whole bunch pressed and the unsettled juice was transferred to 21% new French oak barriques. Fermentation by indigenous yeasts preceded a complete malolactic fermentation in spring and regular stirring of lees was carried out over a 10 month barrel maturation. Bottled unfined after filtration.

       The Avon Chardonnay comes from a single hectare of old vines planted in 1987 at the Avon Vineyard, located in Maffra, Gippsland. Naturally lower yielding, these vines produce small, intensely flavored bunches that capture the purity and character of the site. With the help of ideal ripening conditions, the fruit came in beautifully balanced, carrying a fine line of minerality drawn from the quartz-rich soils of the vineyard. The fruit was hand-picked into 15kg baskets and hand-sorted directly into the press. Whole bunches were gently pressed, with the juice briefly settled in tank before being transferred to barrel for fermentation. The wine remained on full lees for 10 months, with barrels stirred once or twice prior to the completion of malolactic fermentation. It matured in French oak, 30% of which was new, and was racked in January before bottling in February 2025.
