"This is a cool and restrained pinot noir, lithe and shapely, fine boned, a web of lacy, silty tannin lends structure and the wine sits comfortable in its dark cherry, black olive, faintly game meat-meets-rosemary savouriness with a little sweet. smoky earth character in the mix for good measure. Understated and elegant but with plenty going on. A little spread in texture gives the wine a moreish feel. It feels fancy too, in that distinct way that great wines of the world hold themselves. This is the vintage that blew me away and still does!. UNIQUE!!!

Shashi describes the growing season as “lovely…the temperature in March was perfect – like in 2012, not too hot.” The peppercorn spiciness really tickles the back palate. Avani Syrah 2015 is long and intense with lovely, fine, mineral acidity. Fluid, very even, it holds the intensity all the way through. A beautiful one-of-the-kind Australian cool climate Syrah. 12.6%

Crafted with minimal intervention—whole-bunch pressing, wild yeast fermentation in seasoned French oak, and no fining or filtration—it reflects the site’s unique character. The Issan Vineyard, a high-density planting of 9,000 vines per hectare, employs biodynamic practices, including seaweed sprays, cover crops, and garlic-chilli pest deterrents to enhance soil vitality. Established in 1994 by Phillip Jones and Eddy Tee, the vineyard has been managed by the Tee family since 1998. Shashi Singh, who began at Bass Phillip in 2004, and her son Rohit, bring their expertise to Avani, crafting wines that honour Gippsland’s terroir with precision and care.
