"This single vineyard wine from our home vineyard in Derril Road is further evidence of what our fine vineyard site and mature vines can produce in a really good year. It includes some wine from interesting clones grafted onto our old Cabernet vines (planted in 1983).
Deep garnet with a savoury, complex nose. Dark black macerated cherries, roasted meat juices, soy and star anise. Subtle sandalwood, rosemary and sage, blood orange and cloves. On the palate, bright, dark cherry fruit, with a hint of blood orange, thyme and rosemary, savoury, meaty, soy, roast mushroom and truffle. Long and firmly structured but elegant"

"2013 seems to be a bit more crowd-pleaser’y”, says Kate McIntyre MW of Moorooduc Estate, “the complexity of the 2012s, which tend to be more tight and savoury, is very different to these more generous expressions”. New oak is down to 20% in the chardonnays of Moorooduc Estate – another shift in the program in recent years. The vineyard was planted in 1983. Best barrels go into this wine. Exotic fruit scents, quince, pawpaw, ripe tropical citrus, but also shows nougat/cedar oak, spice, intense chardonnay hit. Racy, lean, tightly wound and pushes with great flavour and thrust across the palate. Fine detail, complexity, flesh of fruit. It’s very good. Built for long life in cellars too."

The 2011 vintage proved remarkably successful at Moorooduc Estate, particularly for white wines, despite the very difficult growing conditions experienced throughout that season. The drought had broken to such an extent that our dam, near empty 12 months prior was now full to overflowing. Instead of lack of water, too much water and unheard of humidity was the problem. Through extra care in the vineyard and stringent fruit selection we triumphed over the difficult conditions. One unusual, positive aspect of this vintage was that phenolic and flavour ripeness happened at lower sugar levels than normal.

This wine is made from specially selected fruit from Hugh and Isabelle Robinson’s vineyard on the Old Moorooduc Road. Our single vineyard Estate wines celebrate the individual character of certain special sites around the Moorooduc area.
Bright garnet, refreshing aromas of tangy sour red cherries and pomegranate, rhubarb, red rose petals and violets.
On the palate red cherries and wild raspberries flood the tongue. Tangy acidity, silky, yet firm tannins and a long, pure finish.

Classic Moorooduc winemaking: hand harvesting, whole bunch pressing, 100% wild yeast fermentation in French oak barrels, 25% being new Natural malolactic fermentation (100%) in barrel 10 Months in wood on lees with 1 racking prior to bottling. Result, a pale green/gold in colour with aromas of lemon oil, aniseed and a touch of fejoa. The palate is fresh and bright, with restrained fruit, cashew nuts, attractive salty minerality and a lovely mid palate richness to balance the tangy acidity.
