Owen Latta breaks new ground here with his first release of a red wine in the same year of vintage.

Unable to secure the Cabernet Suvignon he played with in 2019, Owen managed to get ahold of some excellent Cabernet Franc fruit from the Bress vineyard in the Harcourt Valley.

It was made with no whole bunches and no adjustments or additions whatsoever. Just grapes, fermented naturally, bottled bright and young and fresh.

It's a juicy litte jubey number and delicious as a young wine. If you're keen, try popping it in the fridge for a minute. Chill it then drill it.

I reckon Owen has done an awesome job at producing a Viognier that avoids all the trappings of excessive oiliness and heavy viscosity producing a fresher leaner style which does justice to this interesting variety. A combination of Lamplough and Moonambel vineyards, the former managed biodynamically, the latter organically. Vinified separately with wild yeasts, whole bunch pressed, barrel fermented and aged on lees for 11 months.

This wine has been laying down for quite a while and Owen recently decided it was ready to go. It is undisgorged and loads of fun. The wine is 100% Chardonnay; it has a decent bead, the aromas are leaning more towards the savoury aspect while the palate is bright and crunchy. Plenty of green apple acidity, some floral notes and a good lingering finish.

Third release of this straight Grenache from Owen Latta, sourced from organic Shay's Flat vineyard in Landsborough, Pyrenees. Wild and pure, or purely wild, this is a beautiful light to medium bodied punchy red, replete with pepper, brown spices and bouncy red berry fruits. Traces of herbal funk and kombucha-esque zing are there but this is a drinking wine of high interest.

"The subtitle name ‘Quality Release’ is so outstanding. What a cool name. SO much better than Premium or Reserve. Kudos to you, Owen Latta and co. From Shay’s Flat (organic) vineyard, sees no additions, no sulphur, wild ferment, no filter/fining. All grenache from Central Vic, all day. Has this cherry jam, slightly medicinal thing going on, but none of that troubles as it’s all juicy gravy good times and has a pretty and fresh vibe with drinkability riding high. Woody spice, not oak, but stems and undergrowth and such, play a part in the flavours here. So too does a kind of meaty, game-like quality. It rolls around the palate softly, broad, lush in a way, but vibrant. Hedonistic but kind of loose and free. Moreish in the definitive sense – compels you to drink more.
