Guigal "La Turque" inspired take from Adam Foster... After ageing for 42 months in a 100% new French oak, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, then aged again for another 27 months in bottle before being released. Syrahmi wines have always been made to be approachable on release and ready for drinking. La La after spending over 5½ years in barrel and bottle already - will age well for a further 20 years to come. The resulting wine is intensely fresh and focused. Dark and deep brick red, a riot of perfume and spice of ripe wild raspberries, cherries, gun smoke, turned earth, minerals and spice, powerful and intense with meaty salami and black olive tapenade notes. Super fresh palate that’s driven by intense sweet fruit again of black cherries and wild raspberries with black olives, lavender and dried herbs, a long savory mid palate of smoked meat/salami, rich and powerful structure, finishing with fine grain tannins and balanced natural acidity.

"My aim has always been to express the true terroir of the vineyard and vintage. Along the way I have learnt you can have great success through minimal human intervention in the winemaking process and by simply putting your trust in Mother Nature. Each year, I source and select grapes from a different single vineyard in the Heathcote region; therefore each year, the wine will have a different name to reflect the vintage. In ‘09, my quest to find some of the best growing areas in Heathcote led me to a new spot in the Mt Camel Ranges - 45 km north of the Heathcote township. I found great potential at Greenstone - planted out with several different Shiraz clones of which I chose BVRC 12, 2626 and PT 10 to work with. The Easterly exposure vineyard is densely planted with 4545 vines per hectare; ancient pre-Cambrian soil 550 million years old of eroded basalt over limestone rich sub soil that has a PH of close to neutral mixed with copper infused Greenstone rocks. It is also only one of the two vineyards in Heathcote planted East to West. All grapes were handpicked <1 to 1.5 kg per vine."

It's slightly warmer as you come down the hill and Balnarring can produce wonderfully opulent Pinots that still manage to retain a core of refreshing acidity. The 2019 Balnarring shows pure black cherry and blackcurrant aromas. The palate shows a lovely balance between acid and tannins with a powerful yet silky mid-palate given focus by soft persistent tannins.

The wines of Merricks are amongst, if not the best, wines of the Mornington Peninsula. They have an arresting balance between vibrant aromatics, silky smooth palate and firm refreshing tannins. The palest of the three wines, the 2017 Merricks displays a bright crimson edge and lifted raspberry and cranberry notes. The palate has a silky feel with very fine tannins and refreshing acidity.

The warm and sun drenched vineyards in Tuerong produce wine with great depth of colour and flavour, ripe and rich with drying tannins. This 2018 version shows all those characteristics but as a result of the very dry conditions, is all of these things and more. Plums and spice jump out at you and the palate is rich with firm and very long tannins. The Tuerong is always a powerful and well balanced wine that rewards some cellar time but this year the bones are there for a special wine if you can be patient.
